Screencasting
Screencasting is a technique that allows a user to record what they are currently projecting/doing on their computer screen and include a voice over narration.
Why Screencasting you say? Screencasting allows you to record and show the viewer the exact steps you took during your search process. This includes the way you utilize the scroll function and what information you unconsciously gravitate to first.
Step One:
There are many programs for screen capturing; however, for the activities in this lesson you are going to use Jing, which is provided through TechSmith. This program was used for the videos you watched regarding traditional and LICRA searches on the homepage. You will need to download the Jing program on your computer. It is a free download and your account with Screencast.com is free as well. To download Jing follow the steps provided here.
Step Two:
Once you have obtained an account and downloaded Jing to your computer, familiarize yourself with the program. You should play around with the tool on your own, get a quick rundown of the features provided by Jing by viewing the short information videos. These videos can be very helpful.
Step Three:
The last step before you continue onto Activity #1 is to also familiarize yourself with where a completed screencast by Jing is housed. You will need to know where to access your finished screencasts and how to share them with your instructor. View the explanatory video for this process here.
